Population Health Unit - Northern SaskatchewanThe Population Health Unit provides public health and population health services to the three northern Health Authorities under a Co-Management Agreement, with input and direction from each of the northern health authorities for activities in their areas.

The Population Health Unit includes Medical Health Officers; Communicable Disease/Immunization Nurse; Dental Health Educator; Environmental Health Manager and six Public Health Inspectors; Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator; Nurse Epidemiologist; Public Health Nurse Specialist; Public Health Nutritionist; Director and Support Staff.  A Prenatal Nutrition Coordinator and Population Health Promotion Coordinator provide additional service.

The Population Health Unit has roles and responsibilities within the three northern health authorities for:

  • Health protection and disease control and prevention;
  • Health surveillance and health status reporting;
  • Legislated mandate under the Public Health Act (2004) and regulations;
  • Liaison, consultation and advice;
  • Population and public health program planning and evaluation;
  • Population health promotion (advocacy for healthy public policy, community     development, health education).
